    Artist History
Ethereality was born fall of ’97. An acoustic group with Michelle on vocals, Jose on Piano, Eric on percussion, Mark on Guitar, and Oliver on Guitar; all students from the Pilipino American Collegiate Endeavor at San Francisco State University got together for a one-time performance in honor of October’s Pilipino American History Month. The positive energy and responses from group members and the audience alike prompted several more performances by the group.Spring of 1998 found Ethereality at a defunct stage. The group hadn’t performed in months, let alone gotten together to jam. Eric and Jose were pursuing other interests while the rest of the group allowed other priorities to take precedence over the music. Enter Brandon (Overtone) on a rainy April afternoon. Oliver, having worked with Brandon on a past project, had shown him of Michelle’s lyrics as well of some of his own melodies. Oliver introduced the two and what ensued that afternoon was a mystical, spiritual, creative process, which bore the group’s first original as well as a creative musical relationship between the three. With Mark, this quartet came about the song “Do You Know” written by Oliver, lyrics by Michelle, arranged by Brandon which was a magical moment for Ethereality which only the song itself can explain.Along the way, Ethereality decided to expand its musical talents. From another band, Brandon picked up Mike (The Electric Michael) on keyboards, Dean (Doc Diggler) on drums, and Kenni (Akoni) on sax. With this new group of musicians, the band felt they needed to adopt another band name. But as gigs poured in the name couldn’t be decided and instead kept Ethereality as their band name to submit. The band name Ethereality grew on the new musicians, and we agreed to accept the original band name from Jose.Ethereality quickly matured show after show performing covers and originals. Their aged acoustic sound evolved into a new jazzy, smooth R&B and hip-hop sound. The influence of Oliver’s rock music writing, arrangements by the jazz/funk background of Brandon, and the beautiful lyrics of Michelle became the backbone of Ethereality’s OPM’s (Original Pilipino Music) for soloists Mark, Mike, and Kenni adding twist and kick harmony jazz solos.Ethereality still has yet to fully mature and reach it’s potential. With new music compositions of Mike and Kenni, Ethereality is taking their music to new levels of ballads while the funk and rock driven songs of Brandon and Oliver make its strong presence on stage.Ethereality has performed and several venues such as Justice League, Bindlestiff Studios, Cell, and San Francisco Civic Center sharing stages with SF bay area favorites/artists The Kalat Band, Love Daria, Native Elements, Alaja, Epic Voices, Drop “n Harmony, Jordan Knight, Bobby Banduria, Michelle Diaz, One Voice, Ruby Mar (Paper Planes), Theo Gonzalves, Pakyuts, Julie Plug, and Bandsilog.
