Artist History
Throughout her life, Maia Sharp has been writing and playing music. By age 11, she was already learning oboe, saxophone, guitar and piano. She spent her school years winning countless musical achievement awards, and has never faded from her pursuit of a professional career in music. Now Maia combines her jazz and classical education with her country, folk and rock upbringing to create something truly inspired and musically superb. She cites Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones and her father, Randy Sharp, as major influences. “My dad has been a professional songwriter all of my life.” Says Maia. “He showed me by example that writing was a tough, but very rewarding way to make a living.”At age 24, Maia caught the attention of Miles Copeland, Sting's long-time manager and founder of Ark 21 Records. He immediately recognized her talent and agreed to distribute her first album, “Hardly Glamour,” which Maia recorded and produced. Copeland also introduced Maia to some of music’s most admired and respected songwriters. She has since collaborated with such legendary artists as Carole King, Jules Shear, Lisa Loeb, Howard Jones, Jane Wiedlin (of Go-Gos fame), Shivaree, Paul Carrack, Kim Richey and Art Garfunkel.Maia is currently in the studio again, recording songs for her next full-length album. A flurry of promotion and media attention is inevitable, but for the moment, she’s just enjoying the experience of writing and performing her music, both for herself, and for the world. For additional information, visit Maia Sharp’s official website at http://www.MaiaSharp.com.
