Damaru is a world beat ensemble composed of african and middle eastern percussion, bass, guitar, sax, flute and vocals. Much of the music is based on traditonal drumming pieces with original, creative arrangements. The music of Damaru is highly energetic and danceable, as well as unique. It bridges the gap between ancient and present; traditonal and contemporary. This is percussive, upbeat, and soulful music that expresses the joy of life and the essence of world-beat music. |

Artist History
Damaru began in 1997 as an extension of other san diego groups based in west african drumming and dance. The group expanded to include other instrumentalists and modern influences to its current incarnation. Damaru has performed all around the san diego area at many clubs and festivals. Included in their recent shows has been san diego street scene, two years in a row, and several pairings with internationally acclaimed world music acts at a major area club. Damaru's self titled debut CD has already captured the attention of many, and has had regular airplay on world music radio, san diego. |
