Artist History
Half the members of what was soon to become Better Off Dead, met one day freshman year of highschool in biology class. They had known each other a little but never really thought of playing together. But they began to talk and one thing led to another and they decided that the best plan of action was to join forces and form a rock group. After many line up changes the band really started to buckle down and took the name Better Off Dead mid sophomore year. They are from Tustin, California and were tired of all the OC bands sounding the same and there influences came more from bands like Slapstick and Link 80 than Jeffries Fan Club and Reel Big Fish. Later that summer they recorded their first demo and began playing clubs. After winning the Battle of the Bands their junior year (2001) the band had a lot of songs and decided that they should record an album. Having no record label backing, the band payed for it out of their own pockets. Recorded and mixed in 7 days for under $1000, Better Off Dead's debut full length was completed. By the end of the fall the cd was pressed and their 12 song debut album "12 Feet Under" was released. It was received well, "Great production for a self release with tight playing and a great sounding horn section. Fans of Catch 22 and Suicide Machines take note. If these guys stick around and keep working on their craft I can see big things coming for them." Rotten Brain Webzine. They began to play more clubs and with bigger bands like the national touring River City Rebels (Victory Records), international touring Planet Smashers (Canada), Chris Murray, Dan Potthast, Madcap, and many other local acts. They have accomplished all that before their senior year of highschool. Now they are in their senior year in highschool and continue to write songs and play shows. They are looking to get signed, be on compilations, and are hoping to do a short tour soon. Also they are planning on going into the studio in the spring to record a new E.P.. * Better Off Dead broke up in the summer of 2002 because of members leaving for college. Before they played one rockin last show they recorded an ep of the last of their material called the "Final Crap EP". Thanks to all the people who supported us over the years, we had a good run. Our cd is still available through www.skamart.com |

Press Reviews
RCR played with these guys when we went out to Cali last summer. Super rad guys and I love the fact they are sticking to their ska punk ways even though its not the cool thing to do anymore! Stick with it guys! To the album, Great production for a self Release with tight playing and a great sounding horn section. Fans of Catch 22 and Suicide Machines take note. If these guys stick around and keep working on their craft I can see big things coming for them. They just need to hammer out there own sound, and that comes in time, which they have. Fun and young! www.Rottenbrain.com |
