Artist History Thompson is a native of the St. Louis area. He along with the other members of his trio graduated from Eastern Illinois University where they studied with Henry Butler. Thompson went on to get his masters in composition at the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. He now teaches at St. Johnsbury Academy and Johnson State College in Vermont. His primary focus is rhythmic, and elements of Monk ("Butler Shuffle" and "Blues Suite" have Monk derivations) and Herbie Nichols (the tune and improvinsing on "Mischief") have been primary building blocks in his conception.
