Press Reviews
"On the basis of this CD, he's a remarkably talented player, approaching his materail with spontaneity, imagination and vigor. His primary focus is rhythmic, and elements of Monk ("Butler Shuffle" and "Blues Suite" have Monk derivations) and Herbie Nichols (the tune and improvinsing on "Mischief") have been primary building blocks in his conception. Those models suggest a regard for the earlier styles of Jazz piano - stride, boogie wooogie and roots in the blues - and they're apperent in "C Jam Blues," presented with such force that it may take a minute to notive that the rhythym section is absent. In a period when pointed force and kinetic swing are elements lacking in mainstream piano, Thompson is a pleasure to hear." -Stuart Broomer Cadence Magazine This cd is available for purchase by e-mail at orders@cadencebuilding.com
