Artist History
Formed in the early 90's, we each came from similar musical histories but in different parts of the USA; playing in semi-professional copy-tune bands with little outlet for originality. We formed the BPC with the single plan to write our own music and produce a CD. We got tons of free studio time because one of us was volunteering in a local studio. Thus, our CD was produced and recorded by us over about a year and a half time. We got good reviews locally but never really pushed for national distribution. We are currently working on a second album. |

Press Reviews
From the June/July 1997 issue of "Impact": The Best Parts of a Cow - Tres Carnes - Sonic Jubilee - These guys impressed the hell out of me. They're a local Central Florida band from St. Petersburg. The band consists of two bassists (not the only instruments they play) and a guitarist. They take turns with the percussion and lend their own abilities on keyboards, woodwinds, violin, and harmonica tossed around with kickass lyrics and occasionally scat and yodel. They do some sampling of sounds that remind me of Love and Rockets and the Beatles, believe it or not. Don't be afraid, its a fantastic sound you're sure to dig.;-------------------------------------- From the Feb. 28 - Mar. 13 1997 issue of "JAM Magazine": You could probably listen to these demented Cow boys a hundred times and never figure out what's really going on here. John Pruitt, Bill Lee, and Dave Dorsey all seem to be musically inspired by a lot of Zappa/Beefheart zaniness, while acknowledging the pop eclecticism of XTC, and the improvisational passages of modern jazz. If another band was desperately trying to be unconventional and uncommercial, this effort would still be the stranger project--like music student/scholars getting some pent-up creativity out and screwing around with a lot of free studio time. On about the 57th listen, you can tell that these guys have major chops--even though the singing is a bit forced. Yet on listen 80-something, you may catch onto some of the veiled in-jokes. My guess: it's brilliant. by Richard Proplesch;--------------------------------------From the Aug 1997 issue of "INK19": The Best Parts of a Cow - Tres Carnes - Sonic Jubilee - Concept album gone awry? A trio of music brains obsessed with the ideas of prog-rock? Songs that never say good-bye or introduce themselves? All routine to Tres Carnes, an album of references to beef and lofty musical ideas - frequently, if not always met. by Anton Wagner |
