The Al Go Rhythm Blues Band is pretty much a mystery! In fact, it seems to exist more in Cyberspace than in Australian space, and we're told that mostly that's the only place you're likely to hear them. Why? Because The Al Go Rhythm Blues Band are a true 21st century phenomenon, a CyberBluesBand!
In fact the band is really a loose collection of professional museos who spend their time working in other bands, but don't seem to mind lying down tracks for songs written by Songwriter ‘Laz’ Larry Larstead. That’s probably because ‘Laz’ is a man who runs his own digital studio and recording label, Tin Can Digital Recordings in Tin Can Bay Qld Australia, and who is well known for writing top Blues and Country songs. Of course, museos are always looking for ‘original hits’, and for a studio to record them in. So, as you can guess, ‘Laz’ gets to choose from some great Aussie players when it comes time to record one of his own tunes. The only proviso is ‘don’t mention any names’!
Someone once said ‘You got to use whatever you got!’, and Laz seems to have an abundance of 'digital detritus' hanging about!
In fact, Laz has access to a whole heap of computers, hard disk recorders, synths, sound modules, and museos of all descriptions for making music. {He believes this is why he is 'so loved' by the local musical community.} Laz and his friends record their songs in studio downtime and make them available exclusively to the Internet, and what's more, for the moment, totally free of charge! Blues without dues, is what they like to call it! Oh yes, and Country Blues too, {sorry about that fans}!
Because The Al Go Rhythm Blues Band are using such leading edge technology to create and distribute their music, it was decided that they needed a good ‘Hi-Tech’ name to describe their 'CyberBand' and the mixed bag of Blues, Country, and Country Blues that they are likely to offer up. They considered 'The Travelling Wheelbarrows’, but what the hell, that was too 'hi-tech', and besides that name was already taken! One of the group came up with their name while shooting the bull in the studio one night. He claims that Laz sings with a Yank speech impediment and the name ‘Big Al’, technically, sounds like big ‘L’, at least the way that Laz says it!
At that precise moment, The Al Go Rhythm Blues Band was born. A true Millennium Child! Digital Dynamite! Daffy Duck!!!!
Laz says, "he can't wait for 'broadband' to become widely available, so they can connect a camera up in the studio. Then there will be some true Cyber-ugliness!"
In fact, there are many
different players, instruments and styles to be found on ‘LazSongs’, but one things for
sure, you will always hear ‘Laz’ and his blues harp making a nuisance of himself right
in the middle of it all! Go Big ‘L’ ! |

Press Reviews
The Al Go Rhythm Blues Band is one of the better Country Blues Bands around
today. They not only do the Blues, they swing, they Rock, they do some almost down
home county stuff that will knock your hat in the creek.
'Laz' Larry Larstead & Friends way over in Tin Can Bay Australia give us some great
music. Laz Larry does the song writing and singing and playing Blues Harp. The Rest
of the band gives Larry some great backup.
When I first heard "Gravel Road" I knew I would buy the CD. I just bought it and am
anxiously awaiting the mailman to deliver it. In the mean time I will listen to the
downloaded tracks. But it will be great to have the CD.
I'll admit I wanted a DAM CD from mp3.com. I think there will some day be some
Collectible DAM CDs for there are some great artists on mp3.com.
I love the Slide Dobro in the Song "Gravel Road." The Rhythm patterns are great. The
Fidelity is very good. Larry Owns the Digital Studio where "Gravel Road" was
recorded. He has been cranking out quite a few CDs full of songs he has written.
Larry and Friends have the Recording Art down pat. And naturally they are all gifted
musicians.
The next song on the "Gravel Road" CD that really grabbed me was "A Longtime
Coming / A Longtime Gone!" I think I wore out all the bits in my computer listening
to this song. I had to go down to COMPUSA get a bucket full of bits after listening to
this song about 200 times. The Song and Recording are great.
A Longtime Coming / A Longtime Gone! starts out with some Finger Picking that
makes you think of Merle Travis. And it continues in a modified form throughout the
song. A Longtime Coming / A Longtime Gone! has a lilting tempo and beat that makes
you feel great.
There are many soulful songs on the "Gravel Road" Album by Larry and his Friends.
Larry has a way of writing a song that has a message, and he knows how to put that
feeling in it which will grab you and make you feel it too. Many soulful songs on the
"Gravel Road" CD makes you know that Larry's Roots in both Blues and Country
Music has influenced him to put some deep feelings in his songs. And music is not
music without feeling. However the Technique used by Both Larry and his Friends is
highly Developed.
If you like Blues, Country, Country Blues, Blues Rock, you will have to love this
"Gravel Road" CD by Larry and his Friends in Australia.
