Artist History Songwriters Ginny Weaver and Brendan Lynch formed Star Ghost Dog in Northampton, Massachusetts in the summer of 1995. Encouraged by the positive response to their 6-song demo tape, they packed up their gear and moved to Boston that fall. There they found drummer Tom Green and began playing out in Boston, eventually catching the ears of local label Catapult Records. The trio recorded their debut CD 'Happylove' in the fall of 1997, and when Tom left the band, Ginny and Brendan quickly recruited veteran drummer Chris Foley (formerly of Jen Trynin and punk legends SSD). For good measure, they added bassist Owen Burkett (ex-Incinerator) to the lineup, which allowed Ginny and Brendan to share guitar duties ...... The success of 'Happylove' and the band’s electrifying live shows have rapidly turned Star Ghost Dog into a much-talked-about sensation in Boston, where they now play to sold-out crowds and were voted 1st runner up for Best Local New Act in the 1998 Boston Phoenix Music Poll. Nationally they’re also catching fire; 'Happylove' spent three months on the CMJ charts, peaking at #57, and has met with extensive critical praise in the music press ...... In the fall of ’98 they released a vinyl 7”, 'Automatic Caution Door,' on Scientific Records, which yielded a local hit, 'Plus de Vaches (Qui Remix).' In June 1999, they won a slot on the Mentos Freshmaker Tour, where they performed to a world-wide audience via internet webcast. And in September the band played a showcase at the popular CMJ Music Fest ’99 ...... Star Ghost Dog has shared the bill with a number of rock favorites, including Letters to Cleo, Sloan, Jack Drag, Fuzzy, Placebo, and the Gravel Pit. They’ve just completed their second full-length album, recorded at Fort Apache Studios and co-produced by Master Cylinder (Peter Ducharme), who recently gained fame as the composer of the song for an Emmy-nominated Volkswagon Jetta ad. A limited edition Star Ghost Dog EP will be out on November 15th, and the full-length album, 'The Great Indoors,' is scheduled for release in January 2000 on Catapult Records.
