    Artist History
”Travelling” (KINGS MUSIC, 1998) is Ras Sheehama’s and Namibia’s most elaborate album to date. Recorded in Johannesburg at the ”Digital Cupboard” studio ’96-’97, it features some of South Africa’s most prominent musicians, who have all worked with such names as Lucky Dube, Stimela, and many more. On drums we hear Isaac Mtshali who played drums on Paul Simon’s ”Graceland” album and tour and, on keyboards, Tapelo Khomo (who several times won the title ”Best South African producer”). Also featured are bassist Jabu Sibumbe, Lloyd Lelosa on piano and top South African Jazz saxophonist Mike Makhalemele. The harmony vocals are sung by Beula Hashe (Mango Groove), renowned solo artist Felicia Marion, Toko Ndlozi, and others. The album is co-produced by Ras Sheehama and American-Swedish guitar player Joel Joseph. One of the tracks, ”Jump”, has been released on a compilation CD entitled ”Jozi Vibes” (BMG Africa, 1997). With the song ”Travelling Through the Wild Side”, Ras Sheehama won the Namibian TV’s national ´95 ”Music Makers” competion for ”Best Song” and ”Best Overall Artist”. The prize included a tour to Paris and the ”Printemps du Bourges” festival in France.Another track off the upcoming CD which is already a hit in Namibia is ”Nekwa Lyastima”, sung in both English and Sheehama’s mother tongue Oshivambo. ”Nekwa Lyastima” is an Oshivambo proverb about love and respect for one’s mother. On ”Travelling”, Sheehama showcases his own powerful, spiritual and melodious brand of Reggae, blending influences from many different styles.
