    Artist History
Formed in 1996, Paint is the offspring of a group of local Boston musicians, most of them working at Cakewalk, a music software company in Cambridge, who were writing, producing and mixing a series of multi-media projects for in-store demo’s, on-hold music and trade shows. These finely crafted demo tunes caught the eye of product marketing, who in turn began including the songs with their product demo enhanced CD’s. These enhanced CD’s, usable in both CD players and CD-ROM drives, were picked up and distributed by major music and software retail stores such as Tower Records, Virgin Records, HMV, Best Buy, MediaPlay, Guitar Center, Sam Ash and MARS. Nearly a quarter million copies have been shipped to date.

June 30, 1999. Cambridge, MA --- New paint CD released today, “Behind the Tree”. The original song ideas, recorded with an acoustic guitar plugged into a PC notebook, were written in one hotel room after another in NY, LA, Paris, London, Germany, Amsterdam, Italy, Brazil and Japan. In-between all the travel, Paint would come together to collaborate, jam and record many of the songs off “behind the tree” from these original tracks. The music, written in metaphors, images and truth, incorporates converging styles of acoustic melodic rhythms and indie rock grooves. Wanting to capture, musically and lyrically, both beautiful and dark surrounding images, the songs are about the ultimate catch-22 that one experiences when working on the road over a number of years. The band’s debut live performance was a night to remember. In 1998 at the NAMM music trade show, paint was the opening act for a line-up that included Charlie Farren, John Anderson of Yes, and John Entwistle of The Who. This corporate event, sponsored by Intel and Cakewalk, was to become one of the first ever interactive remote internet jams broadcast live across the web.
