Press Reviews
Mother Groove - Self-titled (INDEPENDENT)
Led by ex-Edmontonian Christy Neveu, Mother Groove offer a melange of inspired rock ‘n’ roll, done in a bluesy/ funky style and tinged with a definite shade of gospel—especially Neveu’s strong vocals. As far as its sound goes, the band is reminescent of Sass Jordan, particularly when she was racking up FM hits in the midst of her Southern-fried boogie phase early in her career.
The self-titled album is well produced, and the song arrangements are uncluttered; the result makes you wonder what the group would sound like if they took their uncomplicated classic rock sound on the road, through—say, Europe, for a month and a half of one nighters. That may be all they need to polish their act for a full-time career in the biz.
A true independent release, Mother Groove isn’t available In stores; you can only get it on the Web at http://www.mothergroove.com.
