Artist description
A good old four piece (sometimes five piece) rock band (2 guitars, bass, drums) that has a a dynamic root quality to it. It's all about the songs and the performance, lending to the interaction of the musicians. Sometimes it's an acoustic representation and other times an electric one. Songs range from rocking out to laid back with a folky-countryish quality. The feel of these songs is important as well as the lyrics they contain.... |

Artist History
Founded some years ago by ex-Wooden Soldier, Greg Di Gesu, this group has been a revolving door of musicians performing Di Gesu's songs. As of late the Stew has taken on a more constant membership and is beginning to incorporate songs of other band members. Two full length CD's have been released here in the States. "Letter to Norway" on DaDa Records in 1996 and "Hand to Mouth" on Get Hooked Records in 1998. One 7-inch was released on DaDA in 1994 and another was released in 1995 on Twang! Records in Berlin, Germany. This release led to performances in Berlin on 2 separate visits. Once as Greg Di Gesu (solo) and another as Fishermen's Stew. In the winter of 1998 the band also opened for Ween on their tour. Originally started in New Brunswick, NJ, the Stew has relocated to NYC for the past 2 1/2 years. Most shows have been in and around the city, leaving behind the band's past acoustic performances in various cafes, clubs, and bookshops throughout NJ. Current venues here in the city include: The Fez, CBGB's, The Mercury Lounge, The Sidewalk Cafe, and Coney Island High. Fishermen's Stew's records are recorded by Di Gesu himself, who makes his living as a recording engineer. Soon to be recorded will be the follow-up to last year's "Hand to Mouth"... |
