    Artist description
"A highly-skilled producer down with the wax musim collective, DJ Allstar's instrumentals are incredibly original and diverse. Jazz, Trip-Hop, and straightforward rap beats are complimented with obese basslines, futuristic keyboards and razor-sharp cutting. Consistently bangin' and impressive. " (listen.com)

    Artist History
After a series of successful pause mix tapes*, DJ allstar was given his first taste of scratching over a decade ago when his brother bought a home turntable and cassette deck with his paper route money. The neighborhood boys would spend time at the house having "scratch contests", with just the cassette deck’s record volume as the crossfader."DJ Jazzy Rock" (as he was christened back then) would naturally be the one to reign, as the equipment was in his house. More equipment purchases were then in order, and allstar practiced his mixing and scratching skills along with his big brother, and subsequently made a decent supplemental income in high school by selling mixtapes and spinning at parties. Allstar got his name from friends, who noticed his incessant purchasing of Converse Chuck Taylor shoes (“I sported red leather, the black, pink and gray “foldovers”, blue glitter, even stonewashed the black chucks for profit…”). The supernatural happened a few years later (he became a born-again follower of Jesus Christ in 1989), and shortly after the parties stopped, and a few years later the spinning stopped. It was not a permanent retirement, however. He had some residual equipment and hooked up with some crews in his hometown (fun fact--he did some very early recordings with Flynn of LA Symphony before he migrated west to take over). He moved out of his home town on his own, and was enabled to acquire some of the basics of beat making and cutting, as well as a few acquaintances in the "faiths" (Christianity and turntablism). more equipment was acquired, and more beats emanated from allstar's lab. what we have here is a selection from the hundreds of beats and songs sitting on the disks of one of the dj's of the wax musim.

    Press Reviews
from raw42: i must confess that the first time i heard this track about five or six months ago, i was instantly hooked - the positive vibe and energy that love offering gives up kept it solidly near the top of my "start the day" rotation in the vans tape deck for almost a month. dj allstar unashamedly shows his hip hop roots by scratching up this surprisingly uptempo piece of trip hop. the track is deceptively simple - the entire bottom end consists of nothing more than a single off-beat-hitting bassdrum, while all other percussion consists of only a snare on the downbeat, a simple closed hat, and the occasional minimalistic break. the melody is also simple, sketched out by some uncomplicated but heavily effected and atmospheric organ lines. what makes this track different, though, is the thoroughly masterful scratching that deepens the groove and drives it along. inspirational vocal samples are expertly flipped and spindled on and off the beat, providing a scratchiliciously steaming helping of groove suitable for the most diehard vinyl purist. mix those deep and constantly evolving scratches with the sparseness of the rest of the tracks composition and you wind up with something greater than the sum of its components. dj allstar has built a church where turntables flank the organ pipes, the choir gets down and dirty, and the congregation stomps for more. or perhaps we are hearing a church of the further future, one that offers drive-through salvation directly downloaded to your rides onboard entertainment system, allowing you to offer up praise at a healthy transfer rate. an excellent track for those who complain that trip hop can be too mellow or sleepy, this is get-you-movin music of the highest caliber. the only real objection that could be raised about the track is a small and quibbling one of genre placement, that perhaps this is too upbeat to be trip hop. while "love offering" certainly pushes the envelope of what is normally considered to be down tempo, it is this reviewers opinion that trip hop is a flexible enough genre to accommodate this level of energy. my highest recommendation is given to this addictively effective piece of turntablism.
