Artist History
This is an ongoing recording project is about Egoli, also known as Johannesburg, the City of Gold, Each track will be a definition, a view point, an experience in, a story about, Joburg. The past, the present and the future, hopefully!
We have recorded two tracks so far , one of them being Planet J which has been included on the compilation CD called Rerooted a release by South African indie label Fresh Records.
We (Baba do) are in the process of completing more tracks for the project. Our aim is to have six tracks and 3 or 4 remixes as the finished product. This project is financed by ourselves and as a result is frequently, all too frequently put on the back - burner, because we need to pay the rent!
Barry is a very busy session and touring drummer
Neil is much sought after sound engineer, producer, computer expert and programmer
and me, Andre, a songwriter, producer and bassist, working on a variety of pop, jazz and movie soundtrack projects
If you want more info on us please send an E mail ok
Anyway, back to this project...the City of Dreams, the big E, a mixture of heavy industry, greed, violence, energy, excitement, the new frontier, institutionalised slavery, an African magnet... the converting of blood into gold.
This multi-layered, turbulent mixture of ancient cultures and near redundant industrial age methods of extracting resources is the essence of Egoli. Also its about being a few nuggets short of a reef !
