    Press Reviews
The Buffalo News (8/18/98) (review of Lilith Fair): "Buffalo singer Alison Pipitone and her band The Cash Cows opened Lilith Fair with a tight acoustic set that made the most of the 20-minute time limit. The lack of a full electric setting put the focus back where it belonged - on Pipitone. The toughness, sarcasm and warmth of of her songwriting came to light during the stripped-down performance. Signing autographs for close to an hour after playing, Pipitone said she felt the positive impact of Lilith Fair for months..."; Artvoice (8/98) (preview of Lilith Fair): "Alison Pipitone, another local songstress, will appear on the local date of this tour in support of her recently released CD "Like Being Born". Unfortunately...she'll probably perform first...If you're smart, you'll skirt the boss and leave work at lunchtime so you can get to the show and support this artist, not to mention enjoy her set. She may very well be on her way to becoming Western New York's newest Natalie (Merchant), Ani (DiFranco) or Mary (Ramsey)"; New Music Quarterly (Fall 1997)(review of Down to Money): "This new release is a gem. Full of excellent songwriting, 'Down to Money' keeps every bit of freshness as a lower-budget effort often generates out of necessity while showing all the skill and talent usually reserved for major-label, high-budget efforts..."Down to Money" accomplishes that wonderful thing where the mind can meet the soul and both can feel satisfied...Alison Pipitone is a major songrwiter and performer. She charms and challenges and never fails to deliver fine songs that hold on for all the right reasons. Granted there are many fine songwriters out there, but Alison Pipitone has worked her way into the upper eschelons with "Down to Money". The recording just feels great"; Option (September-October 1997) (review of Down to Money): "Equal parts Joni Mitchell and Michele Malone, Pipitone delivers her poetic tales of minimum wage America with the pure, white-knuckled intensity of really loud rock-n-roll. Beyond her well-worn vocals and fine acoustic playing, Pipitone's also a remarkably efficient songwriter, painting evocative word pictures in accessible blue-collar hues...Someone, somewhere, please sign this woman; there's no telling what havoc Pipitone could wreck with a major-label budget". North County Music Reviews (Fall 1997)(review of "Down to Money"): "Alison Pipitone is one of those musicians who make this reviewing gig worth all the dross that the major labels release...every so often you get a cranking little rocker like this independent release out of Buffalo...She's a singer/songwriter but with a real rock-n-roll edge to her music...And this album never lets up...The most important thing to know is that Pipitone writes beautiful melodies; hook-laden little gems that nestle in your head and don't leave. She's got a smooth voice that, like her songs, still has an edge to it...Look, is anyone out there with any clout paying attention: sign Alison Pipitone to a major label and you've got Top Ten hits all over this CD. They're all classic pop songs a la Natalie Merchant , early Sade or, more apropos, The Pretenders. Rating: A+"; Girlfriends (May 1998) (review of Down to Money): "On 'Down to Money', Alison Pipitone best exemplifies what a singer/songwriter can do. She writes well-constructed rock-n-roll melodies to support her lyrics....Pipitone can also play a mean guitar, and the way it intertwines with her casual, mildly rough singing style lends power to each song...Make no mistake, Pipitone is somebody to watch. Rock and Roll should welcome her artistry."
