Artist History
At the age of 4, Ted decided to be a professional singer after seeing the Hank Williams Story and some Elvis movies. He wrote his first song at age 12 and by the age of 14 he led a group in the southeast Texas area. By age 16, Ted was playing his original compositions as the house band in a packed out Beaumont Texas bar, 3 hours a night, 6 nights a week. By age 20 he was touring the country with music star Buck Trent of the Porter Wagner Show and Hee Haw. In the Eighties, Ted began touring with a band based in Dallas and moved there. While fronting various regional rock bands he recorded 3 albums, an EP and 2 singles. He was featured numerous times on local TV programs and shared the stage with War, The Producers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Thunderbirds, Chuck Rainey, and Foghat. He served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Music Association representing musicians and raised the voting membership from 12 to 108 in his first month. He promoted original artists by directing and producing videos of notables such as Pantera, Rev. Horton Heat, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Bugs Henderson, Smokin' Joe Kubek, Lightning and more. Ted also wrote and performed the theme song for the 1988 Texas Rangers baseball team, produced by KTVT Channel 11 and also released as a video. His band, Side Effex, was nominated by The Dallas Observer for Best Rock Band in Dallas in 1988. Still searching for something better, he began a recording project called T-Roy [named after his dad] entitled "Sounds Like Texas To Me' featuring some of the best Dallas area musicians like Craig Wallace, Mouse Mays, Craig "Niteman" Taylor, Rob Hunt, Mike Itishiki, Mark Angelo and other local heros. But that was B.C... In January 1990, Ted's life took a dramatic turn. "I was a fanatical atheist trying to prove that the Bible was not true. I became obsessed with studying history and science trying to find any fault with the Bible. I began to see amazing biblical prophecies throughout world history which could be historically proven in a clear way. After coming to the conclusion that this supernatural book was the ONLY truth I had known, I couldn't un-see it...and gave my life to Jesus while driving down the highway. I didn't need anything but the Bible to convince me this was the right thing to do." He soon left the rock band to do solo street ministry with the new songs that G-d was giving him. He continued to produce videos for a few years with Christian groups such as REZ, and Judah (now called Between Thieves) among others. After a year of writing songs at home, Ted joined the praise team of his congregation in Dallas where he remained for 5 years. The group, Y'hudah, released an album of 12 original messianic jewish songs and opened concerts for Lamb, performing at national conferances and was asked to play for the wedding of Melody Green (widow of Keith Green) as well doing missions in Eastern Europe and street evangelism. In 1997, after 7 years of not playing in a rock band, Ted began recording a "solo" project with producer Joe Hargrave. After this 4 song Sampler was finished he began the process of forming a band. This led to the Nomadic Farmers. However, this band was nothing like the songs he had began recording with the solo project so they went into the studio and recorded their own 11 song CD which was released in August of 1998. The Nomadic Farmers performed extensively around Texas and had a strong showing on radio with the Crucible Compilation with their song "Papa Said" going to #2 on the WITR indie charts. With that done, Ted went back into the studio to record 7 more songs to finish the solo project he had begun over a year earlier. He formed a new band to do this and they because Big Methuselah, which released the 11 song CD in July 2000 called "human sacrifice". Radio all over the USA has been spinning the disk and Big Methuselah is showing up on many charts with several of their songs. The CD is distributed nationally by ReSound Media in christian bookstores all over the country In early 2001, there are plans for a new messianic CD unlike anything that has been done in that genre before. Pre-production is already underway and recordings are scheduled to begin in February 2001. In the meantime, Ted has recorded and released an electronica/techno project called Phatdawg "Barking Again?".Though very busy with his own projects, he has remained true to his Texas roots by promoting original christian artists through the Crucible Compilation series and his most recent venture the "Texas Christian Indies" website. For fun, he sleeps...... Ted believes that NOW is always God's timing for him to take a step of faith and reach out to the lost AND to the church with a message of G-ds unfailing love and mercy. With his own unique background and blend of musical experiences, he believes that Jesus has gifted him to reach a diverse range of people that need to know the real Truth! |
