Artist History
In the summer of '96, Patsy Matheson, a Leeds-based singer/songwriter, was described as "one of the city's best kept secrets". She had just given up the day job and was launching her full-time career as a musician. Originally from Surrey, Patsy arrived in Leeds to join the city's massed ranks of students. After a long period of joining in with the numerous music sessions in West Yorkshire, she decided that she wanted to do more than play along with the odd traditional Irish tune. A guitar was obtained, songs were written and she started performing -- purely as a hobby. Along the way, she won the occasional songwriting competition, performed on local radio, and supported the like of John Martyn, Christy Moore and Mary Coughlan. It seemed there was a future in the music business... Autumn '96 brought a pairing for live work with fretless acoustic bass player, Jon Short, and the two have been touring extensively throughout the UK ever since, receiving excellent reviews and playing to packed houses. The release of the CD With My Boots On, confirms Patsy as an important contemporary writer. This collection of a dozen disturbingly honest, passionate songs and their sparse rhythmic accompaniment means that the secret is now out. |
