Artist History
Jessica had some new ideas she thought might be of some significance to rest of the world. For some reason, her words seemed to be falling upon deafened ears. Could it be the ringing left over from years of high volume deception? Was she not wearing the proper hat? Maybe it was her dishwashing detergent. The overwhelming urge to attend conventions compelled Jessica to flee that poorly drained tidal basin of democracy, once called home. She hijacked the first taxi she saw and uttered two words:"West, please." Billy had been meditating for some time in a post-industrial midwestern isolation chamber, trying to douse his smoldering consience with high finance and loose women. He had observed that there was a general lack of interest in things in general. Finding he had lost interest in the local disinterest, he put down the bag of marshmallows and practiced his handwriting. He knew he would have to leave the boyhood land for which he couldn't care less. He made it on the last clipper ship of the season. He sailed across the continent, racing with the sun toward the horizon. He lost every day, but he didn't care.Turn to a rainy Wednesday night on a deserted city street. On the corner, in the local flophouse-turned-brothel-turned-flophouse, there's quite a hurrah over something someone had said, done, or was planning. Maybe a small film premiere. Amidst the rumblings of the giant electro-silicon culture spill known as San Francisco, Republic of California, Jessica and Billy got really drunk and slapped each other for a bit. Not too hard, though. Billy can be a real sissy. The common friend, through whom the two had just met, was drunk as well. He doesn't own a wallet and was unimpressed by the display. There was talk of collaboration, then more violence. Billy and Jessica initiated irregular meetings to promote the end of the cancerous mediocrity that, for some time had, been sticking it's tynes, one by one, into the soul of man. They knew they would require assistance. Meanwhile...Shawn, a regular co-conspirator of Billy's back at the state sponsored workforce overflow-buffer, had been misappropriating kisses somewhere near a big river, pretty much between Canada and Mexico. Living in some sort of French communal free-for-all, called a "cul-de-sac", he bided his time singing love songs to orphaned cowboys, until he could get out west to join in the expedition. He'd heard some talk of progress being made by his old comrade. With hourly reports coming in every two seconds, the seconds were turning into weeks. Knowledge of these new developments did nothing more than pour hot sauce on his bleeding ulcer. A bellyfull of his own musings just made it that much harder to swallow his porridge. He had to slip out the back way before things got messy. The time had come to make his escape. He rode that ferris wheel like drunk toddler. Seven and a half short weeks and three lost teeth, the carnival barreled over the Bay Bridge, at midnight...Lesa was having her morning glass of steamed non-fat soy moonshine when she realized that, dammit, she was teetering over the most splendid of all creations. Then she passed out on the patio.Through their network of spies and reformed gamblers, Jessica, Shawn, and Billy had gained knowledge of Lesa's powers. If she could make plain old dirt into such a dazzling salamander preserve, she certainly could do something for these revolutionaries. Being at one with all things, Lesa already knew of their plan. She also had designs for the future. That's, more or less, how it happened. The name is just that, pure and simple. Let it mean what you like. At least, that's what some guy said at the gun store. |
