Press Reviews
...Quite simply, "Come And Get Us" is one of the best albums I own. I first thought that the fros were just a cover for a disorganized band--I was wrong! - Matt Feitelberg of Tarzana, CA. When I think about the Bay Area, I manage to overlook the high housing cost and congested roadways because of one thing - "diversity" - cultural, religious, ethnic, but especially musical diversity. The bands in the Bay Area have managed not to congregate into a clique of clones like Seattle in the early 90's, and nothing illustrates this fact better than two local bands: Left Out Lamont and Comfy Chair. Formed in December of 1997, Left Out Lamont represents the ultimate in power pop-rock. This San Francisco trio, cosisting of Miguel Vallejo (guitar/lead vocals), Josh Almond (bass/backing vocals), and Dave Madole (drums), has shared the stage with such local favorites as The Donnas, Pansy Division, Simon Stinger, and Spike 1000. Released indepenently in early 1999, their debut album, Come and Get Us, cosists of tweleve foot tapping, head-bobbing songs driven by Almond's solid bass playing and Madole's crisp drumming. Simplicity is the key here. There are no five-minute solos or odd time signatures, just power chords and a steady beat. Such music might seem easy to make, but Left Out Lamont does it with an energy that most other local bands lack.Another band that illustrates the diversity I seek is Comfy Chair, the finest of the "slamswing" genre. Comfy Chair is nothing like Left Out Lamont, except in one respect: being talented and worthy of some serious attention. - Ashray Shah, Satellite Magazine March 2000 |
