Artist description
C. Love
Formed: 1996
BORN: Fort Worth, TX
When C. Love first exploded on the rap scene in 2000 with his fast rhymes, harmonious choruses, ominous G-funk, and gangsta attitude, no one knew whether this uncanny Texas rapper was for real or if he was a novelty success. After all, at this point in time, many rappers were popping up from small and big labels and not all at a commercial level. As C. Love leap-frogged local success with their hometown record label, Swoll Records yet instantly rising to the top of the charts with his summer album "Crunkdafied." By this time in January his sophmore album, Red Handed, drops a year later, not only debuted at number one but also proved to be changing new millennium rap albums. While other rappers struggled to break away from the cliches like Juvenile, Nelly, Lil Wayne, Lil Bow Wow, Big O, and LL Cool J in the late '90s, C. Love was one of the few rappers able to carve out his own stylistic niche, an inimitable myriad of urban sounds with a strong gangsta attitude. Yet following the unprecedented success of Crunkdafied and, more so, the award-winning success of "Crunkdafied," C. Love never struggled to meet expectations having realized his achievements on his debut album. Yet C. Love remains a vital ingredient as few are able to duplicate his signature style. Visualized in the post-industrial southern slave farms of Fort Worth, TX, C. Love didn't have good probability of ever being a successful rapper. Until UGK put Houstons on the rap map in the mid '90s, almost all commercially successful rap had come out of New York & California. By the early '00s when C. Love was doing their best to get a label deal, rap was dominated by the East and West coast, leaving the rapper without any contacts or chance of getting a deal in the South.. In 2002, though, C. Love will take a chance and take a plane ride from Fort Worth to Los Angeles to meet with a record label...

Press Reviews
Solo emcee spits rapid fire, gangsta brag rhymes over clapping beats, busy high-hats, and tinny synths. Good delivery, poor recording. In 2001, C. Love has made a name in this rugged industry. (Reviewed by Brolin W.) from listen.com |
