Artist description
The Outer Lords is comprised of MC Chief Justice and multi-instrumentalist GOODING. Their self-produced 13-song CD, Tozama, showcases Chief’s ability to improvise in both English and Japanese. Crossing Hip-Hop with Funk, Jazz, Electronic and even World Beat elements, The Outer Lords are reminiscent of other ground-breaking acts yet maintain a unique identity. Living in Japan, Chief is sitting in with DJs in Tokyo, spreading the word as GOODING is performing his solo projects live in the States. These two have paid their dues, performing at clubs nationally and internationally, and are poised to blow up. |

Artist History
Long ago in a distant place, a change took place in the very system which was the heart of the land. Many of the lords of the land had joined forces with the powerful overlord who came to rule and appropriated land and wealth to his allies. However, there were also lords who had their own unique ways of life. They did not side with the newly crowned overlord, but they were also too powerful to be eliminated. These men were considered outcasts by the rulers who were part of the upper crust of society. Because the leaders of the central power structure feared these men, the men were thought of as rebels and were limited to only the furthest reaches of the land. Because they would not sell their souls and bow down to the accepted way of life which was dictated by a mere handful of individuals, they were hated, disavowed, and above all else, they were feared. They came to be known as the Outer Lords, and it was not long before they combined their strengths, honed their skills, and took over the land after a hard-fought revolution. Yet even today, individuals such as these Outer Lords must come forward in the interest of the masses. Without the work of these Outer Lords, we are doomed. But they have arrived. They are here. These are the Outer Lords. |

Press Reviews
"Chief Justice of The Outer Lords is a storyteller with a uniqe vocal style that sounds like Busta Rhymes on Ritalin – same style of flow, much less volume. Over a funky blend of live instruments and keyboard samples, he gives lyrical nods to artists such as B.D.P., Audio Two and the Wu-Tang Clan while cooking up stellar lines of his own such as rockin' country to country because I'm not a xenophobe. Not content to display his extensive English vocabulary, this gifted rapper rocks more than a few rhymes in Japanese, complete with translations. highlights include 'Quite Complex,' a political statement that lives up to its name musically and lyrically, and 'Nappy Go Lucky,' an amusing story about Chief Justice losing his microphone and fretting about becoming an acoustic M.C. GOODING, his [producer], is up to the task of supplying Chief Justice with beats that equal the caliber of the rhymes. He offers ambient backdrops, bouncy reggae, haunting guitar samples, X-Files-style keyboards and some Shaft-tinged funk. With Chief Justice presiding, this hip-hop crew should have no problem holding court.– Andrew Miller, "The Note," Pitch Weekly. "Positive rap is what this band is all about and this band offers up some great rappin'. The sound is similar to Busta Rhymes as opposed to the other [C]rap that is being churned out. It's also refreshing to hear rappers who actually use their talent with words to get across a message instead of talking about "'Poppin' a cap in somebody" and "bitches and ho's". Great release."– Mite, Co-Editor, Mutant Renegade Zine. "... man I am blown away! This is my favorite type of hip hop because it is positive and has a message – the collaboration between GOODING and Chief Justice sounds so incredible! Justice’s lyricism reminds me of classic old school hip hop and GOODING's programming, guitar, and drums blend perfectly to create a sound that is truly original and very innovative. This is REAL hip hop and not that fake sell-out shit you hear throughout mainstream radio and see on Mtv these days. All the tracks were standouts ..."– DJ Savage, "Phase II," WHSN, Bangor, ME. "... most dope. I'm truly digging the production and fusion of jungle stuff ... the people here will get a heavy dose of The Outer Lords, 4 sure."– Harmeet Kala, RPM/Hip-Hop Director, KBUX, Columbus, OH. "The Outer Lords [disc] is incredible. Just brilliant – it is a prog. rock / rap fusion that exceeds even the hip-hop / hardcore blend for intensity."– Thatcher Graham, Program Director, WECS, Hartford (Wilimantic), CT. |
