Press Reviews
Orange Helicopter, 6412 Atlantis 06.24.00 Orange Helicopter played club Atlantis this Saturday night. A self described, Foo Fighters meets Cheap Trick conglomeration, Orange Helicopter has all the audience loving moves of such mentioned famous bands. Quickly beckoning in window-shoppers from the street; Orange Helicopter soon had a large, attentive crowd. . This four piece band does remind you of the cheesy, power pop band of the eighties like Cheap Trick. However, this band is a modern, less cheesy, more fun version of pop. Great three part harmonies and excellent stage presence dominated the audience's eye's and ears for a short 50 minute set. Drummer Coley Tennant with only a four piece set as arsenal, rode hard and heavy all night, constantly keeping both the songs and the audience moving right along. Both Bassist Dave Crow and Guitarist Mike Hanson contributed to the beautiful harmonies throughout the songs all the while playing their own axes and jumping on stage many times in unison. A good visual look! Joey C Jones, frontman for Orange Helicopter, teases the audience with direct eye contact and pointed gestures. Throughout the show, he would point and stick his lizard like tongue out at the audience. Joey's voice is not what you expect to find in a bar band. Every word enunciated, every phrase wonderfully understood, even in a club. The combination of Joey's perfect pitch, clear voice and a good sound system made this band stand out strong. The encore song reminded me hat we have met the newest Roger Daltry. Joey and his band sang The Who's, I can see for miles" every bit as well as the original boys. The audience went wild with delight. |
