Artist History
Love Spirals Downwards was begun in the late 80's
by multi-instrumentalist, Ryan Lum, but didn't truly
take form until the addition of vocalist, Suzanne
Perry, in 1991. Two of their three demo tracks were
featured on the Across this Grey Land 3 comp,
garnering attention from fans and critics worldwide, and
sparking their career as one of Projekt's most successful acts.
Over their 8 year history, Love Spirals Downwards
released 4 albums; Idylls (1992), Ardor (1994), Ever
(1996), and Flux (1998), 1 single, Sideways Forest
(1996), and 1 retrospective collection Temporal (2000),
incorporating the styles of ethereal, shoegazer, folk, world,
ambient, and electronica to create a sound uniquely their own.
Primarily a recording project, the duo performed only a
handful of times, generally in conjunction with Projekt
Festivals. LSD's last live show was in 1998, in support
of their final studio album, Flux.
In 1999, Lum shortened the band name to
Lovespirals, and began working
with new collaborator, Anji Bee. Suzanne Perry formed
a new group, Melodyguild, in 2002 with several local
Los Angeles musicians. |

Press Reviews
"Throughout their career, the duo have maintained a strong following among the Goth set, even though their audiences are far more varied than that. Ethereal folk is the best way to describe them, for they fit neither the image nor the dark mood of the Gothic genre, although their occasional melancholic edge does explain the connection." -- Bryan Reeseman, All Music Guide
****** "The Los Angeles based duo Love Spirals Downwards
creates soundscapes layered with soothingly airy keyboards,
acoustic guitar arpeggios and ethereal female vocals. In a
rare appearance at the Troubadour, Ryan Lum and Suzanne
Perry stripped their music to its essentials: an amplified
Ovation acoustic guitar, a haunting voice, and one beautiful
melody after another." -- John Koenig, Muse Magazine |
