Artist History
Crisis was formed in December 1996, but its roots trace back much further. The band consists of Ed Leitch, lead and rhythm guitar, Randy Franklin, rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Tommy Franklin, drums, percussion, and vocals, and Bobby Hodges ,bass guitar. Three band members are native Charlotteans. Tommy and Randy Franklin are brothers, and Ed Leitch grew up on the same street as the Franklins in the early 1970's. Bobby Hodges is from Augusta, Georgia. As teenagers, the group enjoyed a wide variety of music dominating the 70s scene, with the sounds of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Beatles, The Monkees, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Rolling Stones, influencing the music Crisis writes and performs today. As high school students, the band members played in separate bands, with Ed Leitch performing with Halifax, a local Southern Rock band, Tommy Franklin playing with East Company Band, a Rock / Rhythm & Blues band, and Randy Franklin performing solo gigs as well as playing in a local Bluegrass band. In the early eighties, Ed Leitch and Randy Franklin teamed up with another local musician to create The Providence Drive Band, a trio performing Country Rock and original material. This successful local band enjoyed playing every Thursday night at Simon Sez, a popular Charlotte bar in the Elizabeth community. The Providence Drive Band solidified the songwriting team of Randy Franklin & Ed Leitch, and led to many recording sessions throughout the eighties, where Ed and Randy honed their craft of writing pop and rock songs. In later years, the trio of Ed Leitch, Randy Franklin, and Tommy Franklin drifted in and out of the local Charlotte music scene, performing and recording with fellow talented musicians such as Gina Stewart, Peneye Craver, Joyous Perrin, and recording Engineer Mark Williams. Bobby Hodges was added as bass guitarist in 1998 to fill out the energetic sound of the band. This led to the formation of Crisis, who carries a wealth of talent and experience that delivers in a polished sound of energy and pop music. The group is enjoying a renewal of enthusiasm for the craft of writing and performing music, and have played many live performances throughout the last two years, and are now at work on their second CD of original material . Several of their original tunes entitled " Charlotte ", and "Ted", were recently featured on 106.5 FM The End, during the show " 90 Minutes ". The band has also performed at several local venues such as Festival in the Park, The Record Exchange, and the esteemed Tosco Music Party at the Great Aunt Stella Center. The band has also received extensive airplay on 91.7 WSGE FM. |

Crisis -- Charlotte band seems to have transported back in time to bring us harmony-filled songs that could qualify as long lost Beatles, Byrds or Neil Young B-sides. This gig is the CD release for their new set of tunes collectively titled Nothingtown. Local pop maestro Jamie Hoover produced and recorded the disc, giving it a warm, cozy sound. It's like finding an obscure, psychedelic-pop 7" record in the attic that stays on your turntable for countless spins and elbows its way to become a favorite ditty. Creative Loafing(Samir Shukla)
