Artist description
Shelley James is a northwest singer who is
described as the "Velvet Voice of the Northwest.".
Her songs of hope and love inspire, and
encourage her audiences. She has one of those
rare female voices - rich and buttery. She loves
performing, and knows how to bridge the gap
between audience and performer. Shelley's heart
and conviction shines through her songs, and it
is clear that she was born to sing. |

Artist History
Shelley James grew up touring and singing a
capella gospel music with her family. Being
a child of the'70s and 80', she fell in love
with the pop and rock music of that time period. Her music now reflects her background and influences.
In the late '80s Shelley took her talent, and
started a band called Pyramid Breakfast. They
recorded a CD titled "Written Just for Me", and
performed around the Northwest for 5 years. They
became local favorites at the Buffalo Gap in
Portland, OR, and the Vet's Club in Eugene, OR.
Shelley later recorded a solo CD entitled "Crack
The Shell" released in '98. It is full of songs
inspired by falling in love with her now
husband/manager/producer Callan Coleman. He is
an abundace of talent all unto his own, being
the backbone of her live band Shelley James' musicbox. The band has
gained the respect of their entire region. Catch Shelley and musicbox live for a real musical treat.
Their music is out to touch hearts and souls. |

Press Reviews
Fans of Shelley James, and there’s a lot of ‘em, are sure to fill the “moon” in anticipation of songs from Musicbox’s new album, it’s so all right. This CD celebration evening promises to feature future hits of hope from one of Eugenes favorite vocal divas and sometimes pink Floyd cover tune expert. Some say the music scene’s all a titter because a version of the ‘till now a capella hit valley of decision” is included on the disc. Friday, Luna

Crack the Shell is the apple-cheeked singer's new release, an album that amply highlights her solid, slightly jazzy love songs.Backed by some of Portland's superstar session players (Carlton Jackson, Valerie Day, Jay Koder), James swings and grooves tunefully. . .Willamette WeekNice and uplifting adultish pop with a fine touch to keep thingsrefreshing. Those into relaxing contemporary pop will love this.Pandemonium
