Artist History
Ron Brown, a native of Jersey City, New jersey, started composing for piano at the age of 7. Hailing from a musicalfamily, he found that music came fairly easy. By the time he was 9, Ron was playing most of the Rock and Roll songsfrom the 1950's. That soon became boring and he needed a new challenge. He started learning jazz piano and formedhis first group when he was in the sixth grade. From there, he went on to master the organ. His mentors and tutorsincluded Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff and the late Richard 'Groove' Holmes. His versatility has enabled him to becomevery adept in playing the piano, organ, synthesizer and other keyboards. Ron play his first professional nightclub gigwhen he was 13. The following year, he played a college benefit show which included Oliver Nelson's Big Band, DickGregory and the Billy Taylor Trio.Ron amazed a captive audience when, at the age of 16, he was a featured band player at the World's Fair in NewYork. While still in high school, he got together with a group of classmates who soon became known as 'Kool and theGang'. He also played in various nightclubs in New York's Greenwich Village, the Village Gate with Art Blakely andwith Ritchie Havens in the Tri-State area |
