Artist History
Formed in Boston during the cold dark winter of 1996, Lovewhip imagined a warmer, more tropical, booty shaking environment than what was outside their front door. Spurred on by this fantasy Erin Harpe(gtr and vox) and Jim Countryman(bass) started writing songs based on their hero's:XTC, Talking Heads, the Police, as well as from their love of African and Jamaican cultural music. After releasing their full length debut cd in May 2000, their sound has defined a particular grrove that has kept people dancing and smiling wherever they play. |

Press Reviews
Lovewhip rocks the juju with sincerityReviewer: Jeff Burke (website)..what does Lovewhip do? They blend African juju music, dancehall swing jazz and good old-fashioned rock and roll. And understand that this isn'tsome Berklee student band that's just been listening to a lot of Phish andKing Sunny Ade. Instead Lovewhip pulls off this music combination with sincerity and humor not pretension. Great World Pop debut from Boston's LovewhipReviewer: Bostonska.com Grant Thayer (website)A great new cd my way is Lovewhip's 8 song cd called "Whip It Baby!". This Jamaican Plain six piece band has been playing shows around JP and other Boston digs over the past year or so. Lovewhip's sound is heavy on the calypso, reggae an island percussion. The songs are driven by great female vocals and strong guitar. The album is available through the band at shows, also you can check out http://www.lovewhip.net for more info about upcoming shows and other info. |
