BILLBOARD/ 6-10-2000 JIM PHOTOGLO Fly Straight Home PRODUCERS: Jim Photoglo,Herb Tassin III Grifftone Records This collection from Nashville-based singer/songwriter Photoglo finds the highly regarded tunesmith in a romantic and reflective mode. Home, love, and domesticity are recurring themes, beginning with the longing of the title cut and holding truethroughout. Photoglo crafts highly accessible songs in the Fogelberg/JT mold, and this time out he co-writes with some of the best, including Paul Williams, Gary Burr, Jon Vezner, Matraca Berg, and Bob DiPiero. The whole package is mighty easy on the ears, with the largely acoustic arrangements suitable for both country and AC/adult standards formats. While his songs are often recorded by other artists, Photoglo delivers them himself with passion andconviction, whether it's the reluctant rebellion of"The Road To Jackson County, " the hopeful optimism of "A Job Well Done," or any of a half-dozen love songs that could help any would-be Romeo get lucky.MUSIC ROW MAGAZINE June 2000JIM PHOTOGLO "Fly Straight Home" Writer: Jim Photoglo/Wendy Waldman; Producer: Jim Photoglo/Herb Tassin III; Publisher: WB/Expanded Menu/EMI Full Keel 4 Direction, ASCAP; Grijftone (track) In a word, "wow." I've known Photoglo as a songwriter for so long, I'd completely forgotten what a potent performer he is. Back in the early 1980s he charted memorably a couple of times. But this is something else entirely, an ocean current of dark-green mystery. I fell into it and floated. Never even came up for air. What a disc. |
