Artist History
Kirsten Parsons and Kim Treiber are Burning Joan, a female duo featuring rich harmonies and lyrics deeply rooted in personal experience. The music is neither Folk nor Rock…Folk-n-roll describes this music best. The name of the band is intriguing enough, and conveys several things at once: the voice of God, women on fire, the betrayal of kings, the communion of saints, and the forgiveness of sins.Kim Treiber has been deeply involved in the Taos, NM, music scene for many years. As a bass player and vocalist, she recorded three albums with the band The Bohiems and one solo album entitled Fear No Art. Kim continues to experiment and grow as a singer/songwriter.Kirsten Parsons’ voice has graced several recording projects with her beautiful Celtic/folk style harmonies. In addition to her vocal talents, Kirsten is a noted visual artist in Taos.Parsons and Treiber have each moved to Taos fourteen years ago; Kim from Chicago, Kirsten from New York State. They have been singing together since 1993. The album Love’s Flame is Kim and Kirsten’s first collaborative recording effort.Whether a beautifully simplistic duo performance of a high-energy, full-on, plugged-in folk-n-roll band, Burning Joan’s debut album, Love’s Flame, is music that sets your soul on fire. Compact Disks and cassettes of Burning Joan’s Love’s Flame and Kim Treiber's "Fear No Art: See the Beauty, Feel the Pain," are available for $15 per cd and $10 per cassette, postage paid.
