Artist History
Billy Blackstone started in 1988 with Billy Blackstone and the Fleetwood Brothers based out of Jamaica Plain Boston. After the passing away of Mag$ the groups other lead vocalist the band broke up and Blackstone went out on his own with a female vocalist and four female hip-hop dancers. The Billy Blackstone project was born and started a strong buzz in the New England area. Blackstone's songs Cover Up Your Thang and Stick out your Booty both received airplay on Wzou 94.5 and kiss 108 two of Boston's biggest radio stations. WZOU 94.5 labeled him a WZOU artist because he did not have a record deal at the time. The Billy Blackstone Project was used for WZOU events opening for artist like Rob Base, Stevie B, Expose', Giggles, Shannon, etc. He also was entered into New England's most talented rapper competition which he placed first and opened for Tim Dog. In 1993 Billy Blackstone was signed to Danger Records. He recorded a full length cd called "Coming From The Suburbs". In 1994 Blackstone appeared as part of Throat Culture's live show (an upcoming band with a well known stage act in the rock scene). They were voted best live act in Boston and they introduced "The Raft" ride at each show. Blackstone was placed into a Rubber Raft and road the crowd like a giant wave as he handed out bananas and CD's into the mosh pit.The crowd would pass him around the club just after he would perform a song in Throat Culture's set. Since then Billy Blackstone joined another high energy band called FREEBALL'N which plays out regularly in the New England circuit. You might also catch him performing on stage in a set with other great Boston bands like Two Ton Shoe. In 1999-2000 Blackstone released a single called Flutie Magic, in the efforts to help support the benefit for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation For Autism. The cd received allot of recognition on ESPN NFL COUNTDOWN and SPORTS CENTER as well as various radio stations in Boston and Buffalo areas. Blackstone is currently in the studio working on new material and you can catch him performing out regularly in the New England Area. |
