Artist History How did this blend of island music establish its roots in Greensboro, N.C.?One word: Devotion. Tracy Thornton fell in love with the melodic sound of the steel pan and set out to make it accessible to all people. His goal is simple, not to exploit the integrity of the music or the instrument, merely to expand it. And expand it he has. Since forming in May 1995, Been Caught Steelin' has exploded into regional prominence, performing in mainstream venues with such national acts as Jimmy Buffet; The Dave Matthews Band; Earth, Wind and Fire; Luther Vandross and The Steve Miller Band. The band has successfully crossed over into the adult contemporary arena, blending their high-energy calypso with easy-listening jazz, proving once again its okay to break the rules.Where will it lead?Straight to the top! Thornton released his first CD Steeling Christmas in 1994 to rave reviews. Boosted by regional television appearances and local and regional radio airplay, sales are phenomenal each holiday season. The band released their highly anticipated Been Caught Steelin' CD in 1996 and it too boasts huge sales. With solid regional backing, a national tour schedule and a new CD release scheduled for the spring of '98, the sky is the limit for Been Caught Steelin'.
