Artist description
Welcome! Robert Spring, Professor of Clarinet Arizona State University, attended the University of Michigan where he was awarded three degrees, including his Doctor of Musical Arts degree. His teachers include John Mohler, David Shifrin, and Paul Schaller. Dr. Spring has performed as a recitalist or soloist with symphony orchestras and wind bands in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and South America, and has been heard in the United States on Performance Today. He frequently serves as clinician and adjudicator. He teaches on the faculties of several summer music festivals and has published numerous articles on multiple articulation and other contemporary clarinet techniques. Dr. Spring, recently elected President-elect of the International Clarinet Association, has performed for the 1988, 1991, 1995, 1996 and 1997 International Clarinet Association conventions. He is a Buffet Artist, and plays the Buffet Green line Clarinet exclusively. Dr. Spring hosted the 1995 International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest at Arizona State University where he is presently Professor of Clarinet. He and his wife, Lynette, and daughter Jessica live in Tempe, Arizona. Dr. Spring has several recordings to his credit, including the first recording of Grawemeier Award winning composer Joan Tower's works for clarinet. A new recording, "Dragon's Tongue," a CD of virtuoso music for clarinet and wind band, was released in April, 1994. |
