Artist History
Vit Micka is a conducting and composing graduate of the Prague Academy of Music. He also studied conducting in masterclasses under the Russian conductor Arvid Jensen who, for many years, was the music director of the Lenningrad Philharmonic. Micka continued his studies with professor V. Dobias.Micka was the chief conductor of the Moravian Philharmonic (in Olomouc, Czech Republic) for many years and the conductor of the Pilsen Radio Orchestra for ten years. He has conducted concerts in Canada, Cuba, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and the United States. He specializes in the music of Dvorak and Janacek--both their symphonies and their operas. He teaches conducting and piano currently at the Prague Academy of Music.Although his conducting career has limited his activities as a composer, there is a small and successful catalog of works. Among these is his Concertino for Piano and Strings, Winds, and Timpani, "Lonely Statues", and his first String Quartet. |
