Artist History
Thunder Chicken began as four high school friends hanging out and playing music together. Their first gigs were at open houses and block parties, but soon they began gaining local recognition as a captivating live band. Now, a few years later, they have refined and matured their musical abilities, and have developed a strong commitment to their art.
Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the band includes Mike Church, Kevin Geerling, Wil Lucy and D.J. Williams. Together they have developed a style that has been described as "well written tunes that feature gangland shouted choruses and a sound that straddles the line between up-tempo, New York style hardcore, and mid-paced, groove-oriented metal." (John Serba, Grand Rapids Press, 10/25/00)
Their overwhelming amount of stage presence and amazing crowd response has propelled them through two United States tours, ranging from the Midwest to the West Coast, as well as mini tours of the East Coast. The band has also appeared on several compilation CDs, including an international release that also included System of a Down, Hed(pe), Papa Roach, Snot, and many other established bands. Ultimately, it is their live performance that endears them to their fans and booking agents. Thunder Chicken has received coverage in a variety of print sources, ranging from local publications to nationwide fanzines.
Hard workers on the West Michigan music scene, Thunder Chicken have opened for national touring acts such as Slipknot, System of a Down, Static-X, Amen, Full Devil Jacket, Mindless Self Indulgence, Nothingface, Vision of Disorder, and Primer 55 among others. They have also headlined local music festivals and benefits along with countless club gigs. None the less, because of the bands close relationship with their fans, they find themselves playing nearly as many private parties as club gigs, and are often championing all ages shows in order to make sure all fans have an opportunity to enjoy the live Thunder Chicken experience. Their ability to consistently draw and entertain a crowd has secured them a place on the club circuit, and in the minds of club patrons.
Riding high on the success of their first release “Dutch Ghetto”. TC is currently hard at work writing and recording material for their second album. Thunder Chicken continues to be a reckoning force in the ever-expanding world of alternative metal.
