    Artist History
3dBbegan in the spring of ‘98 when high schoolbuddies Grant Walker and Chris Weal begancollaborating on material that Walker had writtenin his four year college stint. The songs came quickly and their growth was hindered only by theirsearch for the perfect bass player. The following istheir tale told firsthand by band leader Grant Walker. In the spring of ‘98 I was coming to the end of my 4 year college career and knew I would be headed back to Baltimore. I had played in bands in college, some more serious than others but, through it all I had always felt that I would return to Baltimore and start playing with Weal again. Chris Weal that is, one of the hardest hitting and best drummers I had the pleasure to play with.I met Weals’ in tenth grade when I transferred to Westminster High, out in cowtippin country. We soon discovered a love for all the same bands. It wasn’t until after high-school that we actually started playing together but, that was short-lived because I soon headed off to college. So, one day in the spring of ‘98 I called up Weal to see if he would be interested in checking out some 4-track recordings I had made and maybe get something together upon my return. A few months later we were at ground zero. I was back in Baltimore and we were working new material. But, we needed a bass player. The first person that came to mind was Adam Burch. I had known Burch from before I transferred out to the country and knew he was stand up guy and good solid bass player. Just as I had with Weals, we had already made many great memories together and I believed that his playing style, talent and personality would be nothing but a positive factor in what we were trying to accomplish.Burch had always been influenced my more mellow rock and roll but was not afraid of the harder stuff. He was huge Stones fan. Unfortunately, Adam was too busy with a career at the time and honestly told me that, although he was interested, he couldn’t give 100% so he would have to say no. We found someone to fill the spot for the time being. After getting by with the substitute bass player for a few months, cutting a Demo and having written a bunch of new songs we found ourselves again without a bass player. But, this time it seemed that fate was on our side. We had played out once so far and Burch had been there to check it out. He had liked what he had seen. So, this time, when I called to see if he was interested, he was. He called me something like five times in two days to make sure we knew he was interested. He was in. So we wrote, practiced, recorded and settled on the name 3dB. We played out as much as we can, met some really cool people and bands and put stickers all over Baltimore!!!!Our first CD is a collection of songs that range from heavy riff driven tunes to very personal acoustic ballads. We try not to go all heavy or all mellow. We try to mix it up as much as possible just like the greatest bands of all time did (Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones). Today so many bands limit themselves to one style and one sound and often their album will consist of very similar sounding songs. We have tried to bend this limited modern approach and create our own little take on the musical world around us. Though still in the rock and roll genre we want to explore all aspects of that world with songs from the heart. Mostly solemn personal stories or darker tales of existence and insights into the sorrows and malfunctions of humanity. But not all heavy, not all ballads, not all pop songs, and not all generic arrangements. As you read this right now we are working on material for the second and third CD’s. Since we do have a home studio it allows us to put a lot more time and effort into the recording so that the finished product is more polished. This is of course a luxury that usually only a signed band has but,we hope it shows on Unsound and the CD’s to come. We will be going into the mountains this summer to record a shorter, acoustic CD and we will be recording for the third CD at the same time. So there is always a new CD in the works. Hope you enjoy and hope to see you at the shows!!!!
