    Artist History
Described as "remarkable for his guitar playing," (Gary Hayes, CBC Artscape) Shane Simpson has dedicated himself to the art of guitar playing for 20 years. The result is a unique blend of guitar-driven folk-rock that blends soulful melodies with introspective lyrics. Simpson released his second CD "More Electric" in the fall of 2002: "Outstanding compilation ... as strong as any singer-songwriter album you'll hear this year." - ALLAN WIGNEY, THE OTTAWA SUN The song "Nowhere Near" off "More Electric" was one of 16 winning songs chosen from across the country as part of Canadian Musician Magazine's National Great Canadian Talent Search. "With tunes this satisfying and musicianship this good, Shane Simpson's dance card should be filling up before too long," says Jim Kelly from Canadian Musician Magazine. In February of 2002 Simpson was included among the "Capital City's Top 50" by Ottawa Life Magazine. The article profiled 50 people who are shaping the future of the Nation's Capital. 2003 is proving to be a "More Electric" year for Simpson. Performances with high-profile artists like The Waifs and Don Ross, inclusion in the Ottawa Cisco Systems Bluesfest "Blues In the Schools" program as a resident artist, a feature broadcast on Rogers Television "Front Row Centre," as well as increased touring outside of Ottawa are all helping to win over a new audience. Simpson’s music has been compared to artists like Lyle Lovett and Blue Rodeo. The song "Not Talking At All" off his first CD "Sketches" caught the attention of Blue Rodeo staff, and was ultimately chosen by members of Blue Rodeo to be included in a Best of the New Music Network compilation CD. Simpson attended the Jazz program at Humber College in Toronto, and has studied with some of Canada's finest jazz guitar players, including Lorne Lofsky, Roddy Ellias, and Paul Bourdeau.
