Artist History
Earlobes. Chocolate. Scissors. But enough of fixations - what about Keshco, I hear you cry. Well, it's a multimedia project encompassing any styles we see fit, or rather no styles, just individual pieces. "Aha! A cliche in itself." Probably. But then isn't everything to the enlightened?...Keshco Keshco all around, though bizarrely rarely found, the project began late November 1994 and has continued to deteriorate ever since. Membership has fluctuated wildly around a core of Andrew Brain (Capricorn) and Robert Follen (Scorpio), with long-time colleague Gareth Monger (Pisces). Most of the recordings are written and performed entirely by Andrew on his 4-track - well, what's a chap to do on his own? Live shows are more expressly experimental affairs with odd lighting and cinefilm projections. Old synths? They're very popular amongst the band, as are swirly pink things. |

Group Members
Andrew Brain (voice/gtr/keys/bass/drums/blowy things/tapes), with Robert Follen (voice/drums/keys/gtr/tapes), and Gareth Monger (voice/keys) ...also others on occasion |
|
Instruments
Big Guitar? Little Guitar? Synthesizer? Bass? Odd Drums? Dynamike? Kazoo? Dictaphone? Swirly Pink Thing? ...all skewed with the aid of a Boss BE-5, Zoom 505 and some natty tape speed manipulation. |

Press Reviews
from Beware: "Keshco play a diverse and eclectic range of music. Their work has been variously compared to the Divine Comedy, the Smiths, the Cure, David Bowie and Pink Floyd. The lyrics are heartfelt, yet show a keen sense of wit and irony. Often, they fuse electro/Goth textures with traditional/folk song structures, creating a refreshingly different combination which the band themselves have labelled "post-resignationist". Sometimes they give their imagination full rein and create shimmering, shifting soundscapes, making use of samples and tape loops to build plot and atmosphere". - Beware, issue 2, 5th August 2000 (what pedestrian prose though!) *** from the Cyberfaery: "This is the brainchild of a young man called Andrew. He doesn't tell me who his influences are but I suspect he has more than one Belle And Sebastian record in his possession! Not that his music is derivative by any means. Although it's predominantly acoustic guitar and sweet singing, there's all manner of experimental sounds, dancey vibes and general weirdnes going on. Not to mention some fabulous keyboard sounds and good old fashioned catchy pop songs. It's very professional and well produced, songs cover such subjects as a death in the family ('A Death In The Family' surprisingly enough!) to the joys of snuggling up in bed with a blanket ('Journey To Inner DuvetLand). His lyrics are heartfelt and intelligent with a strong sense of humour and irony prevailing. Each song is distinct and the instrumentals aren't just fillers but are strong unique tracks in their own right. It blends together without losing its form and I like it very much. As the tape plays on, it appears to gradually grow weirder and stranger with less lyrics and the emphasis placed upon mindcurving ambient sounds. Maybe he's just discovered drugs!" - www.cyberfaery.co.uk (a very lovely site indeed) |

Additional Info
We now have an official (oh-ho-ho) homepage (uk.geocities.com/keshco), and there's another page at Vitaminic which is unremarkable enough. It's at: stage.vitaminic.co.uk/Keshco (no www. prefix). Also there's a page at www.besonic.com/keshco, which nobody ever looks at... charming, I'm sure. |
