Artist History
Born the third child of a former Dairy Princess and of a biochemist, Josh Cole is that guy who always reminds you of someone, but is never quite like anyone you can remember.
Growing up in the Worcester-Boston(MA) underground hard-core scene (his brother was in the pioneering Friends of Ed/F.O.E.) and playing jazz saxophone from the age of 10, Josh Cole was suckled and reared on musical expression. Picking up the acoustic guitar at 10 to try and figure out how to explain the words and music in his head, he was hooked. He started writing voraciously and trying out new material at the open mic at the now defunct Old Vienna Kaffeehaus in Westborough, Massachusetts.
His playing and writing continued, and, in turn earning a degree in philosophy, he took it upon himself to see the world and so to have something more to express. He hitchhiked through Ireland and Nova Scotia. He worked as a lounge-style wedding singer. He circumnavigated the U.S. by Greyhound Bus. He even held a job of work requiring a tie every day.
But now, 200 songs later, he has a new album (Photosyntheses-Metanoia Records) produced with industry pro Nick Joyce (Miles Davis, John Scofield). He sports a kicking new incarnation of his band, The Household. He has shared the stage with bluegrass pickers and punk rockers and has illuminated porches, and streets across the United States and abroad.
Just as his punk brother has become a farmer and his sister a quilter and mosh pits have given way to circles around the fire, Josh Cole's quirky homespun music patches together many different styles which grow right up from the soil. Organic, eclectic folk-rock with roots. A fresh voice for a seeking generation.
