Press Reviews
Indie-Music.com.....By: Les Reynolds From the picture on the CD cover, you'd never guess those gutsy, earthy rough-and-tumble vocals would come from the mouth of Anne Engel -- but they do. This 12-song release is a mix of folk, rock and blues, unearthing the entire gamut of human emotion with passion and focused energy.Anne's voice, at times pretty and poised yet raw and tough, is reminiscent of Janis Joplin and Melissa Etheridge -- the perfect vehicle for her musical style. She seems to truly feel every word, every note, every beat. And she makes you feel it -- makes you want to feel it. And complementing her is a truly great team in band members Jean-Pierre Durand on guitars and keyboards, Liza Carbe on bass and high-string guitar and Nicole Falzone, a talented drummer who also gives a wonderful backup vocal.Anne not only leads this wonderful group as vocalist and on rhythm acoustic guitar but also wrote all the lyrics -- from the searing, bluesy rock opener "Let it Happen," to the sweet, melodic "The Ride," to the seductive, bump-and-grind "So Do I." Those three, and perhaps the final two tunes "Endless Possibilities" and "A Good Thing" would be the CD's highlights for overall sound. But, lyrically, "...Ride" and the title track would get the vote."...I watched her, adored her, but somehow I couldn't afford her.She was all I want to be, but getting there's a mystery. She's laugh and she'd joke and with eloquence she spoke. All her words are etched in me with endless possibilities..."and"...Memories, they come dividedYes, there's pleasure and there's pain.I'm too tired from the ride I'm on.Do not treasure what remains..."and, from "Ashes," the very lines that seem to capture what Anne is all about -- and her wonderful music. Although this tune is about escaping a suffocating relationship, it is also about release and passion for life"...Feel my fire burnin'; I've got to feel my fire burnin'I need to feel my fire burnin' and not be the spark in yours..."Anne has the fire -- it's in the spirited passion of her music.Simply stunning! Great voice, lyrics and guitar work...Reviewer: Jim Billard This CD is terrific from beginning to end. Not a bad cut to be found anywhere. The first cut, Let It Happen, starts this CD off with a bang. An uptempo rocker that sets the tone for the rest of the CD. Anne Engel's voice is a delight throughout from the forcefull vocals on Crazed And Possessed to the emotion she portrays on the title cut, Endless Possibilities. Jean-Pierre Durand's guitar work is flawless throughout and downright reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn on the cut So Do I. The lyrics throughout are clean and honest and filled with emotion. This is a CD that you will keep coming back to hear over and over again. |
