Artist description
Last Friday, the alternative-indie band Red demonstrated why Din Din BambooTerrace in Costa Mesa is fast becoming a music venue to watch. Red’s well-crafted,supple grooves sometimes spontaneously erupted into an apoplexy of noise and fury. The music’s intensity was balanced by wistful song lyrics. Lead vocalist Shin Katowrites about longing, mostly for things far away like the seashore of his nativeKamakura, Japan, or things unattainable like the one perfect, true love. Red’s musicis eclectic and intelligent. It’s pop, but it is passionate, powerful, and honest withouttheir generation’s surfeit of earnestness. Red is Shin Kato, bass and vocals; KarimElgobashi, guitar; Anni Caporuscio Connolly, accordian and vocals; and GavinHuntley-Fenner, drums. |
