Artist History
One man out found its roots on the south side of Chicago. The original members were Chris Davy and Bill Hicks. These two song writers/musicians started their musical collaboration in 1987. Influences in their musical careers were Neil Young, America, Crosby Still & Nash, and James Taylor just to name a few. The acoustic guitar was the base of their music. Even in early stages of their song writing, the themes and lyrics of their songs were based on events in their lives. The magic of the duo was quite apparent from the start. They performed their songs at places such as Chicago’s River West and The Blue Room at open mic sessions. In 1989, Sam Rivera was introduced to the group. With this addition came the forming of a band. Sam shared the influences that they did and was an acoustic guitar as well as a bass player. The collaboration was a match. Along with other musicians, the songs took a life of their own. In 1990 the group (no name) began its first attempt to record its songs. Though incomplete and unfinished the group attempted to make it available to their fans and a wider audience. The group struggled to be recognized as a serious band. Then tragedy struck with the sudden death of Bill Hicks. This devastated the group. Committed to the songs and the memory of Bill, The group adopted the name ONE MAN OUT. After a long struggle to find the right sound, talent and commitment the CD was completed in early 2000 under the guidance and direction of Michael Watkins. The selections of songs as well as the total concept of their first CD will captivate all who listen. The unique mix and production of this music combines the acoustic guitar along with heavy electric guitar, keyboards, piano and fine orchestration. The well-written lyrics tell stories that relate to all the joys, sorrows and everlasting memories of life. This collaboration makes the group’s sound truly one of a kind. |
