Artist description Formed in 1995, Down Lo is the combined effort of Randy “Voo” Hall, from Hazleton, PA , Fred “Buddha” Mayshock, from Pottsville, PA and Erik “DJ Repo” Marnell, from Hazleton , PA. Friends for nine years, this rap trio shares both a history and a mission: Making a career out of what they love to do.In the group’s early stages, their projects were primarily studio-based. Since then, they have become more self-reliant in the entire production phase through the use of home studio facilities. Down Lo’s music sticks to hip-hop in its truest form.

Artist History Hall’s first musical experience began in 1990 with the group “King’s Dreams.” After receiving such a positive response from their efforts, it was necessary to take the group to the next level--performing in front of a live audience. In 1991, the group opened up for hip-hop legends Digital Underground and Ice-T. They also gained exposure by performing at local under-21 dance clubs and house parties.“Voo Sha Dae,” another group that Hall performed with before Down Lo, emerged in 1993 with the goal of gaining respect and recognition in the rap industry. While playing at dance clubs, fraternities, and house parties, their talent and dedication worked to their advantage. In 1994, their music ranked as one of the top 10 hip-hop songs in college radio. Once the group decided to pursue different interests, Hall went solo until the creation of Down Lo.Hall’s trademark--a brutally honest, no-holds-barred lyrical delivery--gives Down Lo that flow that gets heads bobbin’. His style reflects true hip-hop that exhibits musical influences like E.P.M.D., Redman, and KRS-1. Hall’s production skills find creative and technical influence in the masterminds of Dr. Dre and TrackMaster. As powerful and thought provoking as the words he delivers, Hall’s energy is contagious and his beats put Down Lo in a class all their own.A soloist who has been stepping to the mic for nearly seven years, Mayshock carries with him more than just the talent for free styling and rhyme battling. A cross between LL Cool J’s honest, say-it-like-it-is attitude, mixed with Heavy D’s sultry sound and ladies’ man image, best describes Hall’s counterpart. When Mayshock grabs the mic, he’s a force not to be reckoned with.Marnell is no stranger to the turntables. He’s been on the one-and-two for nearly seven years, spinnin’ at frat and house parties during his college days. DJ Repo brings new techniques to the cuts and scratches of new school hip-hop. He is the main ingredient that gives Down Lo a true hip-hop vibe. Down Lo has appeared on consolation albums with Much Music Records in Elysburg, PA. Their music gets regular rotation on Northeast and Central PA college radio.They self-promote shows that headline both Down Lo and other up-and-coming hip-hop groups from Philly and New York. This past year, the group produced and headlined at an all-age hip-hop show that was held at Zola’s Lamp Post, Harleigh, PA. Since Down Lo received such a positive response from their new self-produced EP, their fan base has grown rapidly in such a short period of time. The trio performs regularly with UUU, one of the East Coast’s premiere cover bands. This group has definitely created a strong buzz in Northeast PA’s music scene. When they grab the mic, they electrify crowds of well over a thousand.
