Waverider produces full-on big beat energetic club music. The tracks on this release are peppered with quick-fire samples and include female 'oohs & aahs', hip-hop scratches, robotic sound effects and funky basslines. 'I Love News' kicks things off with a thunderous break and hard rock guitars. This song, and in fact all of the tunes on this release, have a real 'up for it' feel. Nice dropouts including sci-fi vocal snippets are a good feature here. 'Dojo Dancer' is a booming 4/4 stomp that is bone-judderingly funky (it's the space inbetween the beats that get you moving, apparently)! An excellent beat brings in 'Dark Inspiration', followed by more female hey-yeahs. Trumpet stabs add to the party mood of this song. I like the ending to this song as it winds down. 'Pump It' speeds-up to drum'n'bass tempo and is characteristic of the whole album in that it hardly ever stops for breath and carries the listener along by a constant assault of changing, well placed samples. 'The Fix' comes in with a superb metal rhythm and a sub-bass tone. Everything here is sliced and diced to perfection - a fantastic rhythmic outburst! 'Mediodia' changes direction somewhat and uses latin samba sounds and percussion to create a luscious Rio de Janeiro night scene. 'Push' uses harder, more synthetic sounds and a brooding bassline. The final track, 'Living It Longer', starts as a sassy excursion and then becomes a hyperactive dance track! This is another song of innumerable twists and turns. Waverider has created an intensely danceable listen with this MP3.com release. The expertly-crafted 'in your face' sound and pounding drums are a great alternative to the more relaxed offerings on these pages. Review by Shaun Holley, 26th June 2002.
