Two guitar garage band based in Ft. Sanders, in the heart of Knoxville, Tennessee. "They didn't really sound much like anybody else-except themselves-due to the four distinct personalities of the band. The secret here is incredibly cool songs done with reckless abandon." -Todd Steed |

Artist History
The Taoist Cowboys was formed by Bob McCluskey in 1988 in Jeff Bills' Ft. Sander's apartment. The four piece pop/rock band played the Knoxville garage scene at such clubs as China King, Gryphons, Manhattan's and Planet Earth. 1990's "Cholo" release was a cassette that gathered recordings from various sources and was recently selected for The Greatest Knoxville Records of All Time compiled by Knoxville's weekly, the MetroPulse. Later, the band played around in a "real studio" for four months spending every single penny available. That recording is "Punt". About that time in late summer 1992 the Taoist Cowboys chose to disband rather than replace the spectacular bassman Brad Deaton. |
