Artist History
They formed originally as a very talented "barber-shop" triplet in 1985 who worked under the monicker "The Three Bamboozlers". During a small charity concert near Area 51 in late 1986 they were all three exposed to lethal doses of radiation which destroyed their ability to harmonize or maintain rhythm. They continued to try and gain back their lost talent but to no avail. "It was like I knew how to make an A chord on the guitar, but my fingers wouldn't do it. Instead they'd start to rip the strings off the guitar of their own accord, and then these strange wailings started coming out...", says vocalist/guitarist Brad. They became a Glam Rock Hair band during the late '80s and tried to parody such acts as "Europe", "The Bangels" and even "Poison." They failed. Unable to play anything approaching music and enraged because their label abandoned them to their irradiated ill-fate, they lashed out at the world and recorded "Mono Vengeance". "We're tired of music that sounds GOOD. We wanna' make something bad, and we believe God gave us a unique opportunity to make real crappy, noisy music." "Mono Vengeance", recorded in 1990, exemplifies the worst in not only recording technique and equipment, but in performance style and sound. Brad & The Mitochondria disbanded shortly after throwing their only copy of this album at a major record company executive. In late 1999 I approached them, having met Brad at my high school where he was employed as a janitor, and I offered to record them on good equipment, to help with the music and get them their original sound back. Brad replied, "Well, my crusade against sonic clarity and quality failed. So why not? I don't mind selling out, especially if it means I don't have to scrub toilets anymore." |
