the fakes rock. take the music of the mid-to-late 60's and filter it through the music of the early-to-mid 90's, play it live, record it cheaply, and yr getting close to that sweet fakes sound. the fakes are four guys dedicated to their vision of what rock music could be, however clouded that vision might seem at times. |

Artist History
the fakes started playing in a lexington coffee shop in january 1999. at the time, we were a 3-piece w/o a drummer. soon thereafter we picked up john ferguson on drums and started playing out at places where the color of patrons' clothes varies from just black and yr not followed by some crappy self-involved poet. with john at the helm, we recorded a 14-song cd in the summer of 1999, but by summer's end we had killed john and turned him into a sweetly-scented air freshener called big fresh. dave condra then picked up the drum duties, and we've been rocking the lexington scene ever since. may 2000 saw us recording yet again, this time a 6-song ep done in one day in our basement, live to DAT for $50. the saga continues... |

Group Members
dave condra -- beat control and babe magnet. keith birchfield -- vocals, guitar and bass and long curly locks. kevin birchfield -- vocals, bass and guitar and the lone graduate. mike snowden -- vocals, guitar and bass and sonic genius. (for the dim-witted: keith and kevin are, in fact, brothers) |

Instruments
we don't play instruments. we focus our psychic energies and harness the forces of nature to make rock music. |

enjoy! lp, disposable ep + bonus live assault, hooray for ray! |

Press Reviews
screw the press. they're all liars anyway. dave's boss said: "[the fakes are] like the spy who shagged me meets sid vicious." --that's better than any press in my book. (kb) |
