Artist History
Sandi Blair has been a professional jazz singer for over twenty years. In addition to performing Ms. Blair hastaught Vocal Technique at Manners College of Music in New York City, CAT Music College in Esaka, Japan andthe Afro-American Vocal Academy (her privately owned studios) in Brooklyn, New York and Osaka Japan. Sandi holds an Associate of Science Degree in Commercial Music and Recording from Georgia State University, aBachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from City College of New York and a Master of Arts Degree in MusicPerformance (concentrated in Jazz) from New York University. She is also a member in good standing of Pi KappaLambda (National Music Honor Socitety of America) and Delta Sigma Theta (a public service sorority). In 1994Sandi and her band , Real Magic, won the $10,000 grand prize at the Cognac-Hennessey "Best of New York Jazz" competition. Shortly thereafter she recorded her debut CD entitiled "No More Blues" on her own label. Over the course of 14 years she has taught hundreds of singers and, subsequently, has developed a series of 3 Vocal Workshops, (Gospel, Scat and Blues), that address the needs of these aspiring singers. Workshop topics include: Breathing and Focus, The Ballad & Rubato Style, Scat Singing, Phrasing and Timing, Swinging, Extending Vocal Ranges and The Lyric |
