Philadelphia is a Christian Heavy Metal band based out of Shreveport, LA. Their ministry is geared toward the youth of america and to the hurting lost on the streets of this nation. Artist History
"And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write,'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, "He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens": "I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept my word, and have not denied my name." -Revelation 3:7-8 In 1981, the Christian Rock group "Philadelphia" was formed. Brian Clark, Ronn Flowers, Brian Martini, & Phil Scholling dedicated their lives to God's work. On a mission to spread His Word, Philadelphia went among the downcast and deprived, taking the message of Jesus Christ to the streets. In the band's early years, they could be found playing on street corners, in parking lots, high schools, prisons, and at a Christian coffee house called the "Powerhouse" in Bossier City, Louisiana. The Philadelphia Outreach Ministry helped to bring many to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. In 1984 Philadelphia signed with Patmos Records. Although Philadelphia had not planned to get a record contract, it allowed them to extend their message to more people than they could reach with live performances. Their debut album, "Tell The Truth..." was a hit. After meeting for prayer one night in 1985, Brian Clark said, "God's given me songs before, but He just gave me a whole album concept..." and their second album, "Search And Destroy" was born. He immediately began writing down the names of songs, and within a few months the album was completed. Taken almost completely from life experiences of those the band ministered to and counseled with, "Search And Destroy" brought the realities of our world's troubled youth down to earth with lyrics that were raw and true. Songs for a planned third album, entitled "Warlord", were written but never recorded. Philadelphia continued playing in various locations throughout 1986, playing with groups such as "Messiah Prophet Band". On Saturday, November 1, 1986, Philadelphia played their last concert in St. Louis, Missouri with Resurrection Band. Philadelphia was put on the shelf. No one could foresee that 14 years later, the band would be taken off the shelf by God to be used of Him once again. In 1999, Philadelphia recorded two new tracks, "Kids In America" and "Please My Love". "Kids In America" talks about the sad shape our youth is in today. When students kill other students and teachers without remorse. "Please My Love" is a remake from a song the band originally wrote and performed during their early years, which never made it onto an album. It is the story of a man who awakens to find that he has missed the rapture, and the heartbreak of being left behind. In September, 1999 Philadelphia held a reunion concert at Crossroads Coffee House in Shreveport, LA. Philadelphia says that they have no other plans at this time for where their ministry will be going from here. They are not sure what God has planned for them, but whatever God leads them to do, they will do it. |
