    Artist History
Imagine a sound brutal enough to be the soundtrack to a holocaust, so horrific it could be the musical equivalent of a serial killer's thought patterns, yet fragile and dynamic enough to be labelled 'handle with care'.Now picture it thundering out of a PA at a volume lethal to human hearing courtesy of five young men averse to the concept of standing still, and you'll come close to comprehending the power of the Mightyfew and their second EP, "Cinema".But only close. For while many will listen to the grinding brutality of songs like 'Meet The City' and write it off as violent noise, they will miss the genuine emotion and sentiment that is the very essence of 'Cinema'. It screams louder than any musical mayhem, and is twice as confronting. One need only listen to the torn vocals of Chris Doyle to understand that beneath the adrenalin, the noise, and the grooving discordance, lies a heart and a soul.Formed in Canberra 4 years ago, the Mightyfew story so far is, unlike their music, typical. Band forms in school, cops its tricks from its idols, but via a slow process of playing, writing, and slogging its guts out on the local club/toilet circuit grows into a living, breathing, original outfit.Their debut release, a self-titled EP that surfaced on Sydney indie label DC Records in 1999, signalled that there was a new contender on the Australia heavy music scene, something duly acknowledged by Massive magazine:"Mightyfew are one of the best Australian hardcore bands I have heard in the past two years... this band know how to merge various hard elements into a superb mix of think sounding hardcore. " (Anthony Huckstep, June 1999)Touring in support of the EP - which included plum support slots with the likes of Unsane, Guttermouth, Superheist - further exposed the band to a national audience, but also led to a process of musical reevaluation and evolution as their experience as a touring, professional band deepened. The end result is "Cinema". Recorded in Neweastle's TL studios, it's the sound of a band that has grown up and defined its vision. In a musical world where everyone is trying to rap as well as they rock, the Mightyfew are more concerned with lulling you into a state of comfort and then pummelling you with noise. Imagine Will Haven jamming with Neurosis, add the tender emotion of bands such as Far and Sense Field, and you have the Mightyfew circa 2000.From the soaring, melodic instrumental outro that concludes the otherwise scathingly brutal title track to the creeping sludge of 'Both Shoulders', this is music for the millennium that the doomsday people still believe awaits us. It may not be pretty, it may not be nice, it may not be the soundtrack to every baggy-short, backward cap- wearing adolescent's life. But it is real. It is human. It is "Cinema".
