    Press Reviews
REVIEW: "An eagle soars on beams of gold - gonna fly."These uplifting lyrics from the title track, the first song on Jambeau's CD "I Will Again", help set the overall upbeat tone of the band's first recording. The song "I Will Again" features a sort of beat poetry delivered in light rap vocals. The song israther like a testament to Jack Kerouac's "On the Road", with its imagery of the endless vista one sees when taking to the highway. The Latin-flavored rhythms of "Then You Came" alsospeak of travel, but in an allegorical sense. The listener is urged to "find the path that's laid before you - leading away from what you know."The multi-layered tracking of Lina's vocals is evident on several of the 10 songs, but is hauntingly effective on "Say You Love Me." She urges her man to assure her of his love to a guitar feedback whine and heavy bass rhythms. The hypnotic "Danae Tango" alludes to the Greek myth in which Zeus appears in a shower of gold in order to seduce the imprisoned beauty Danae. Lina's sultry vocals, complemented by gypsy-flavored violin melodies, impart her poetic lyrics. The largely acoustic CD blends a number of styles, from light rock, to folk to world music. Lina's wide vocal range, Jerry's vocals, and the masterful instrumentalizations really communicatewith the listener.(Dawn Kiefer, Richland Observer,Feb., 2000)"I Will Again" the debut album by Jambeau featuresa trio of Wisconsin musical veterans who have combined their considerable talents to serve up a tasty eclectic stew of original acoustic music. The trio includes Lina Palionis, easily the most powerful female vocalist to come out of Wisconsin since Tracy Nelson; Jerry Fitzpatrick, a guitarist who combines rhythm and melody to createsterling solos and memorable riffs; and Jeff Hammes, a veteran electric and acoustic bass player who had played with Lina and Jerry in separate groups before the three combined forces. On various cuts on the album they are joined by a host of talented friends, including: Dan Bono on keyboards, Nick Ehlinger and Karen Howell on violin, Mark Sundquist on cello, Kevin Buxton on drums, Hartmut Weithe on drums and percussion, andTony Castaņeda on percussion. The album begins with the title cut, a spiritual and physical travelogue with a sing-talk vocal layered over pulsing rhythms and interwoven with crackling guitar accents. Put this one in your car deck and your vehicle will only head in a westerly direction."Closed" is a melancholy lament penned by Jeff. He plays the bass and guitar on this one, with Lina supplying a sensitive vocal and two violins and a cello filling the rest of the musical canvas."Testament to Love"..., a song of commitment that would be fitting at weddings. Dan Bono provides a lively and inventive keyboard accompaniment. "Then You Came" ...Lina's vocals create a sense of urgency as each verse builds into a powerful chorus."Say You Love Me" evokes a haunting bayou landscape with its music and Lina's vocals while it probes the mystery of love, will and power withits lyrics. "Calling Me", a Fitzpatrick original, has an infectious rhythm and a chorus that always gets the crowd singing along when performed live."Danae Tango", written by Lina, is impressive in its style and in her dramatic vocal. This song seems to be dancing somewhere around a Gypsy campfire with flowers in its teeth. Weithe's staccato drums and Ehlinger's violin add Old World flavor."Love's Not Made of Clay" is a Hammes composition with two distinctive sections. Verses focus on the pain of love gone wrong, while the chorus affirms the need to move forward."Leave Me" by Fitzpatrick, is the closing track, but its powerful vocal chorus, thought-provoking lyrics, and masterful guitar work will leave listeners wanting to hear more from Jambeau in the future.
